Importing Contacts from Outlook

Importing Contacts from MS Outlook/Outlook Express

The IMPORT feature allows you to transfer your MS Outlook or Outlook Express Contacts to your e-Agents Contact List, without having to enter/retype them one by one. This feature can save you, literally, hours of tedious data input. The IMPORT function is most useful for new e-Agents subscribers. If you are only entering a few new contacts (1-5), you will find it much easier to enter them manually.

This is NOT a synchronization facility between Outlook and e-Agents. Before you proceed,  please make sure that your Outlook software has the IMPORT/EXPORT facility enabled. If that is not the case, you will have to install that feature from your original installation CD (Microsoft Office CD).
Outlook Express has this functionality installed by default. We suggest printing this page prior to importing.

Here is how to do it (the menus are slightly different from Outlook to Outlook Express):

1. For Outlook:

·         Go to FILE menu, choose IMPORT/EXPORT.

·         Choose "EXPORT TO A FILE", then "COMMA SEPARATED VALUES" for DOS or Windows
(you may be prompted to insert the original Microsoft Office installation CD).

·         Select the folder where you keep your contacts (by default - "Contacts").

·         Assign name to file and choose a target directory where you can easily find it later (as a suggestion, use C:\mycontacs.csv).

·         Click on the FINISH button.

·         Proceed with the instructions below: "Import into e-agents".

2. For Outlook Express:

·         Go to the file menu, choose "Export" >> "Address Book”.

·         Choose "TEXT FILE (Comma Separated Values)".

·         Assign name to file and choose the target directory where you can easily find it later (as a suggestion, use C:\mycontacs.csv).

·         Add to selected checkboxes "First Name" and "Last Name".

·         Close Export window.

·         Proceed with the instructions below: "Import into e-agents".

3. Import into e-agents
by clicking on the “Browse” button, you can select the file where you saved your contacts in Step 1.

Upload this file by clicking the "Upload File" button. The file upload process may take some time depending on your address book size. Once the import process is done, you’ll be redirected to the e-agents Contact List page where you can review and modify the imported contacts and then assign searches to them.

Alternative Options: Importing From Webmail Accounts
(Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, MSN, etc)

Our system only works with the CSV file created by Outlook. With other e-mail providers, they may or may not have directions on exporting, and you will need to get this information from the e-mail providing company. Once you export your contacts, feel free to cut and paste them directly into the blank CSV file template found below.

Import into e-agents

Upload this file by clicking the "Upload File" button. The file upload process may take some time depending on your address book size. Once the import process is done, you’ll be redirected to the e-agents Contact List page where you can review and modify the imported contacts and then assign searches to them.

We do not guarantee successful importing using this alternative method. This may or may not work and results will vary with each document manually created by each agent. This method has been proven to work when done correctly.
